(google translate, sorry) :

In 1987, the games became more complex. Lincoln consisted of 7 different action and skill games and a small strategic element. The strategy game was unfortunately at the beginning of "Lincoln" and was admittedly a bit lengthy. Those who failed or lost their lust never enjoyed the more action-packed parts.

Lincoln was completely loaded into the main memory of the C64, so that the individual sub-games could be played through immediately without waiting. This was easily possible thanks to a graphics packer developed for the game "Mars Project".

In 1989 I was able to resell the game. The first distribution had paid "Lincoln" but forgot to publish. The sales rights had fallen back to me as contractually agreed. As I had also started to "compose" the music for my games (which was not always a pleasure for the audience), I expanded the game to include a theme song with a credo. Lincoln was about a supercomputer that rules the universe, and gradually loses his mind. Likewise, music eventually dissolves into its component. That's a nice explanation today. At the time I probably did not think of any end to the topic.

I've never been a talented gambler myself. And so I have used my circle of friends and the siblings (especially my brother) as a test player for each game. When the development of a new game came to an end, it was pretty quiet around me ... Fortunately, I found a demo version for creating a complete game video that would allow the player to progress to the next level when he did hopelessly failed in between. With any key, a level can be ended prematurely. I did not look for it while recording the video. Who needs him will find him. As I said: The first level is pretty boring.

In Part 1 of the game I noticed a bug: Some crosses do not disappear. Presumably then waits a van in vain for his starter permission. Lincoln is quite a martial game and women did not have much to report in the 1987 military. In the game instructions, therefore, there is always talk of "men" and the female gender occurs in this game only in the form of "women's sacrifices" in appearance. Not that I learned a lot today about "Political Correctness" (or ever wanted to learn), but in my C64 days, I was a teenager who had few thoughts on such issues.

From manual :

This is the original text of the game manual for "Lincoln" from 1987. A few spelling mistakes have been adjusted, the content has not changed.

When the war ended, humanity agreed that as long as it ruled itself, new wars would continue, and the idea of eternal peace throughout the universe would remain a dream.

"Lincoln," was the name of the computer that was to govern humanity from then on. A machine has no feelings and therefore no desire for power, that was the idea that led mankind to use this computer as a ruler over view itself.

But the plan of a clever constructor was to use his own brain as the processor of the computer to gain power over the entire universe.

Lincoln did his job for years, and everyone believed that there would be no more wars under his rule. One day, when Lincoln knew that people were trusting him, his brain came to life.

His home planet became a fortress and the people became his slaves. After a few years, no one was allowed to enter a planet of his solar system, unless they brought him a sacrifice. These sacrifices consisted of living women who were placed in dungeons in his forbidden planet, where they had to wait to be sacrificed.

The plan

You are the leader of a rebel unit of 90 men who have made it their mission to defeat Lincoln.

They have taken their men to the planet Ganama 4, from which they can indirectly reach all of the planets of the forbidden solar system on Lincoln's home planet. For this purpose, the men are in the so-called "speed Gnats", in small dock capsules, which can be perceived by any radar. While Space Dreams wait for their starter permission, the Speed Gnats can be docked. With the space transports, the men each arrive one planet further in the direction of the forbidden planet.

Even before the last women's transport has reached the forbidden planet, the speed Gnats must be in the atmosphere, since the planet will then be surrounded by a protective barrier.

The landing area closest to Lincoln is guarded by a number of vehicles and facilities that will try to eliminate a sniper already placed on the forbidden planet so that the Speed Gnats can land. The defensive vehicles are unmanned and lie in front of almost unlimited numbers.

Behind the landing area are space scooters, with which the men can fly to the city. At the same time, another group of vessels has to invade the cavern system protected by technical safety measures, where the next women's sacrifice is waiting.

At the place of the three gates, behind which the women are, live the "Tripsies". A Tripsi is a wooden creature who can open the gates with his flute playing. If you seize a Tripsy, you can free the women.

Meanwhile, the other group will try to invade the city. You'll need to bring one of your men over the city by hot air balloon. There he can take the parachute to the landing site of the city.

With a space scooter, the man will fly off the surface of the city until he finds the location of Lincoln. The computer has three internal entrances, through which the women's sacrifices are brought. If you manage to infiltrate nine computer viruses through the entrances, then you've made it: Lincoln is destroyed!

Game 1 - The Road to the Forbidden Planet

The ten speed gnats are located on the planet Ganama 4. Move the cursor to a planet to see how many speed gnats are on the planet. If a planet is marked with a cross, a space transporter awaits its take-off. Move the joystick to the planet where you want to dock next. Hold down the fire button while a spacecraft is waiting to be launched. Game is successfully completed when at least one Speed Gnat has reached the Forbidden Planet before the Woman Transporter arrives.

Game 2 - Landing on the forbidden planet

The speed gnats must be protected from the security installations. From the point of view of the sniper, you can shoot the unmanned assets so that the speed gnats can land safely. Be sure to shoot down any equipment whose shot will hit the Speed Gnat as the next night. If Game 2 finishes successfully, you have 9 players per Speed Gnat for Game 3.

Game 3 - The way to the forbidden city and the way to the place of the three goals

Control the space scooter in the upper part of the picture and the watercraft down at the same time. With the joystick movement up / down you can use the space scooter to escape the primeval birds, with joystick movement left / right you avoid the electrical systems in the cave system.

Game 4 - The place of the three goals

Behind every gate are two women. Game 4 is successfully completed when all three goals have been opened. Capture one of the tripsies via echo sounder (fire button) when it snatches air. Once you have mastered a trip, you must try to crack the code of the respective gate with your flute playing. Every wrong tone triggers a death mechanism, every right sound opens the door on. Dodge the guns should you have played a wrong note. Attention: The third gate always has the same code as the first one.

Game 5 - Balloon flight into the city

Steer the balloon so it does not hit rockets or UFOs. Press the fire button to push the balloon up. If the balloon is not hit, it will shatter at the latest at the end of the atmosphere. Once the balloon is destroyed, the parachutist can try to reach the landing site in the city. In turn, he must not be shot down by the missiles. Three balloons are available.

Game 6 - The search for Lincoln

Fly over the rooftops with a city space scooter until Lincoln is found. You must not collide with another space scooter, or be shot down by police scooters. If you successfully overcome the path, you can destroy Lincoln.

Game 7 - The destruction of Lincoln

You did it! It is only a matter of time until you have all 9 computer viruses introduced into the computer. Lincoln has three hardware inputs and four ground wires. However, its hardware structure is constantly changing. Lock the viruses so that they get directly into the computer system.

Hiscoreliste

The Hiscoreliste is sorted by record times. Enter your name, finish the input with the framed "E" and delete a letter with the framed "R".
